Google Innovation Center Los Angeles
Permanent Light Sculpture1996 Google asked us to design an interactive wall that would live in their Los Angeles Customer Experience Center, their premiere destination for hosting and engaging top clients and guests.

Taking up an entire side of a 3,200 square foot space, the dot pixel wall is a perforated wood-covered surface that functions as a secondary display of information in support of the content on the opposite main screen. The dot pixel’s abstracted screen surface means that when off, the wood veneer becomes a tactile design material to complement the space and reflect Google’s brand identity of warmth and playfulness.

The juxtaposition between a natural material like wood and the cutting edge technology embedded into the surface makes this a functional and innovative focal point for visitors. The natural material also emphasizes a sense of touch. When turned on, the wall would display simplified, big-picture information in low-resolution to prevent screen fatigue. Presentations would play off these lights and colors as creative mediums to bring the space to life and engage visitors.

In addition to the interactive wall, we created an interactive center piece table fitted with same dot pixel diffused by the surface material of the table. The dot pixel table was engineered with actuators for self-powered adjustments in height from a seated position to a raised (bar height) position.
